Bob Dylan – Mozambique

I like to spend some time in Mozambique The sunny sky is aqua blue And all the couples dancing cheek to cheek It’s very nice to stay a week or two And maybe fall in love just me and you.
There’s a lot of pretty girls in Mozambique And plenty time for good romance And everybody likes to stop and speak To give the special one you seek a chance Or maybe say hello with just a glance.
Lying next to her by the ocean Reaching out and touching her hand Whispering your secret emotion Magic in a magical land.
And when it’s time for leaving Mozambique To say goodbye to sand and sea You turn around to take a final peek And you see why it’s so unique to be Among the lovely people living free Upon the beach of sunny Mozambique.

Hi Bob,
Why not come to visit Mozambique again.

  • EYUPHURO, this fine folkloric group from remote, nothern Mozambique, is celebrating the 25th anniversary. Formed in 1981, EYUPHURO introduced a unique and exititing new Afropop sound, rich with acoustic guitar, harmonized vocals and 12/8 rhythms with a distinctly Mozambican swing.
EYUPHURO was the first Mozambican band to record internationally. The band hit international acclaim in the late 1980's, at the start of the surge in World Music popularity with the recording of MAMA MOZAMBIKI that became one of the first releases on Peter Gabriel's Real World label.
After years of absence from touring and recording, EYUPHURO has returned with shows in Europe, Australia, Brazil and Zanzibar and with the kaleidoscopic album YELLELA. The finest tracks echo the gorgeous melancholy of Portuguese fado, others bounce back with an infectious African beat. The rhythms of morro, tufo e chakacha are irresistible and the lyrics celebrate Mozambican life, particularly that of the northern province of Nampula, where most band members originate, a meeting point of African, Arabic and Latin cultures.

  • Marrabenta, from Mozambique, is one of the most danceable styles in Africa. Not surprising given its location next to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Tanzania. But Portuguese colonial history gives it an infectious Latin twist and Mabulu, who only recorded their first album in 2000, is one of the country's freshest bands.
This, their second release, features a wide range of artists from veteran marrabenta star Dilon Djindji to young rapper Chiquito with some fizzing guitar and fruity sax thrown in. It's catchy, celebratory music which puts Mozambican music back on the map. (Simon Broughton, Songlines Editor)

If you don't own this outstanding album so far, you can get it from World Music Network or download it here.
